BBC Children In Need Appeal
Pudsey is the mascot of the Children in Need appeal
The BBC Children in Need appeal takes place every November, taking the form of a telethon. The mascot of the charity is Pudsey Bear who was introduced to our screens in 1985. To date, the BBC has raised more than £600 million to support children across the U.K. The vision of the charity is that every child in the UK has a childhood which is:
- Safe
- Happy and Secure
- Allows them the chance to reach their potential

Most people in the U.K. get involved in the appeal in one way or another. Large businesses such as Tesco, Boots, Sainsbury's, Greggs and so on, support the charity by selling special goods and smaller business, schools and charities also join in with the fund raising. Some well known celebrities take on challenges to raise money and to highlight the charity. This year Matt Baker (from the One Show and Countryfile) is riding a rickshaw from Edinburgh to London. You can get involved by watching the telethon from 7pm on Friday 18th November 2011 or by donating to one of the many groups who are collecting for the appeal.
