Are we really two countries separated by the same language?
George Bernard Shaw was accredited with saying, 'America and England are two countries separated by the same language.' What do you think he meant by that?
Fifth Grade have been exploring some of the differences in vocabulary that you often find in the U.K. and the U.S.A. We have learnt that in each country we often use different words to describe the same thing and sometimes it can have amusing consequences! For example Miss G. gets very worried if you say that you like her pants, because she thinks you can see her underwear! Of course, we mean that we like her 'trousers'.
