Heritage Open Days
The first exciting events to happen in the local area, and all over the U.K., during the school year is the Heritage Open Days. In 2012 this is taking place from the 6-9 September. This is a wonderful opportunity to visit some places which are not normally open to the public and also a chance to visit some interesting places which normally charge an entrance fee for free.

Royal Apple Picking
Why not visit the Queen's orchards, at Sandringham, and pick some delicious apples to store and eat over the winter. Each year, in September, the general public have the opportunity to "pick your own!". You can check the local newspapers (The Lynn News or the Eastern Daily Press) for details or visit http://www.sandringhamestate.co.uk/Produce.asp?S=10&V=1&P=36 to find out when to visit and for which variety is available for picking.
Monday 5th November - Bonfire Night/Guy Fawkes Night
Where ever you live there will be an organised firework display near you. This is a real English tradition, dating back to 1605 when the Gunpowder Plot to kill the King James I of England and blow up the Houses Parliament failed. It's a good idea to keep any pets inside for each of the evenings around this date as people in your area will be setting off fireworks! Popular local events include the display at Denver, near Downham Market and the one at Mundford. For a really spectacular firework display set to music why not go the the one at Christchurch Park, Ipswich!
Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy, 'twas his intent
To blow up King and Parliament.
Three score barrels lay below
To prove old England's overthrow
By God's mercy he was catched
With dark lantern and lighted match
Holler boys! Holler boys!
Let the bells ring
Holler boys! Holler boys!
God save the King!
